You'd think it would be hard to miss the giant dome protruding from the top of Healey Library, but many people at UMass Boston don't know there's an observatory on campus. It's actually not too surprising that it goes unnoticed and unheard of, because the Arthur Martin Observatory has been closed and out of service for a number of years, unused by students or faculty.

For others, however, barbecue is no joke and less work than art. The Kansas City Barbecue Society, one of the biggest sanctioning bodies in competitive barbecue, hosts upwards of sixty competitions a year all over the country.

This is it. The end, the finale, the last goodbye, the farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodnight. After five years at UMass Boston (four of them spent writing this column) I am graduating. If you don't see this column next semester, take that as a good sign.

Can I get a "Hell YEAH" for the semester being down to the last few days?
In sports, teams don't become great overnight. It's not as easy as watching countless instructional videos and reading how-to manuals. It's more about watching countless game films, learning from tough losses and, most importantly, patience.
The UMass Boston Beacons tennis coach, Eric Berg, knows this well.

Offering its first class in 1987, the Asian American Studies Program grew from the need to educate UMass students about the Asian American experience. Initial advocacy from Asian American community leaders and support from campus Vietnam Veterans helped to create a unique medium for awareness with the program driven by engaging members of the community, especially those who closely relate to the refugee experience.

If my cousin still had a voice, I wonder what he would say. If he had the opportunity to tell his story, I wonder who would listen. He would be 21 this month and maybe a junior or senior in college. If he were taking a social psychology class at UMass Boston and had to write an autobiography, I wonder if he would talk about what it felt like to be physically and emotionally abused or sexually violated as a child.

In my opinion one of the major issues affecting the Latino community is the lack of representation in public policy. Despite the fact that Latinos are the largest minority with over 42 million Latinos living in this country, making up around 15% of the population, the Latino community lacks a voice in pertinent governmental organizations and institutions, which indisputably has an effect on policy.

Dear Mass Media,

The Psychology Club hosted a discussion of male survivors of sexual assault. Did I read this correctly? It only took 6 years for this discussion to present itself. I welcome this discussion and hope it will generate constructive dialogue within the UMB constituency (i.

The semester is coming to an end. So, too, is my undergraduate college career. And, in turn, so does my time as a student journalist here at UMass Boston.

The majority of my career here at The Mass Media has been spent giving you my opinion on meaningless things, the latest CD's, the biggest movies, the best local restaurants.

Memo to Scarlett Johansson Lost in Translation. Scarlet Johansson: you are a multi-millionaire, well-endowed, porcelain-skinned diva; why settle for Alanis Morrisette's leftovers? (Though it does beat Dave Coulier, I guess). Anywho, Scarlet Johansson and Dane Cook-wannabe Ryan Reynolds are officially engaged, her rep confirms.
