Master Plan to rejuvenate ailing campus look and life

Under the guise of the UMass Boston's Master Plan, plenty of changes will be taking place on the campus over the next 10 to 25 years. The Master Plan is designed to be a tool for decision-making used to provide long-term, physical development ideas and also to provide a framework for coordinating work done on campus as well as identifying opportunities for growth in the future.

New Senate Members in Special Elections

On Sept. 26, the Undergraduate Student Senate held a special meeting to fill seats vacated by elected officials that were not available to serve. There were two empty College of Nursing and Health Science seats and five at-large seats to fill. Twenty candidates stood in front of present senators and delivered one minute speeches trying to sway votes their way.

UMB student walkout narrowly averted

UMass Boston students decided on Friday evening to halt a walk-out scheduled for Monday afternoon at 1pm. The walkout was planned to express opposition to prosecution of the "Jena 6," six black high school students in Louisiana charged with attempted murder for their alleged roles in the beating of a white teenager in December 2006.

100,000 Protesters March on Washington to End the Conflict in Iraq

Thousands from all over the country went to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 15 to protest the war in Iraq. The protest, called just the "Sept. 15 March," was organized by Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition, Iraq Veterans Against the War and CODEPINK.

When UMass Boston English Department Associate Chair Cheryl Nixon decided to take one of her 18th century English Literature graduate classes to the Boston Public Library to conduct research on rare books in the summer of 2006, she had no idea that her actions would result in a world-renowned exhibit and a UMass-sponsored grant partnership with the library.

UMass Online, which was founded in 2001, has been gaining popularity, shown with this year's growth rate higher than has been recorded in over three years.

First Annual Boston Palestine Film Festival

This festival features a range of compelling and thought-provoking documentaries, dramatic features, rare early works (1969 to 1980), and new films by emerging artists. These films from international directors bring an honest, self-described, and independent view of Palestine and its diasporic society, culture, and political travails.
