Five people were hurt and one person was killed in three separate shootings on Sunday night in Mattapan, Dorchester and Hyde Park. These shooting happened in the span of less than an hour. sIn connection with the incident in Dorchester, a suspect was taken into custody (1).

Officers from District B-3 for Mattapan and Dorchester responded to a radio complaint of two victims who had been shot in the vicinity of 10 Orlando Street in Mattapan, at around 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022. Officers discovered two victims with gunshot wounds when they arrived. Boston Emergency Medical Services took both patients to a nearby hospital, where one adult male victim was declared dead. The second victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said in a statement (1).

Officers responded to a shot spotter activation at 92 Westview Street in Dorchester around 9:40 p.m. They found an adult man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police said were life-threatening. Police later said the victim is expected to survive. Officers in Hyde Park also responded to a report of a person shot at 1 Rosa Street five minutes later, at 9:45 p.m. They discovered a grown man there who had been shot. He was sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening wounds (1).

At 10:02 p.m., Boston Police officers responded to a local hospital on a report of two adult males who admitted themselves to the Emergency Department suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims’ injuries are considered non-life-threatening. Preliminary investigations indicate the two victims who self-admitted were victims of the Rosa Street incident.

“This is a pretty terrible evening in general,” stated Boston Police Commissioner, Michael Cox, on Sunday night: “Having six people within an hour, period, in multiple locations throughout the city is terrible thing, no matter what time period it is. Whether it’s the worst crime period or one of the better ones in our history. The only thing more troubling is our phones aren’t ringing off the hook from people telling us what happened or what they might have seen or heard.” He also added that the police needed the assistance of the local community in order to quell the violence (3).

A state police officer in Brockton saw a car that matched the description of one that left the Dorchester crime scene, at 11:02 p.m. Police in Brockton, Mass., arrested Aquan Hudson, 24, and charged him with armed assault with the intent to kill; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and unauthorized possession of a firearm after conducting an additional investigation (3).

The curfew is a common-sense measure that families may take on their own, according to Rev. Kevin Peterson, the head of the Boston-based New Democracy Coalition, who has demanded a State of Emergency in the city. “This is no different, quite frankly, from how many of us grew up,” Peterson stated as part of his curfew request: “Our parents used to tell us to be home by the time the streetlights came on. That was an imposed curfew within families. We are not asking for any police intervention or for the National Guard. We are asking for parents to engage their family as a public safety measure.” (4)

Peterson and a few other clergy members gathered on Sunday in the South End’s Tent City Apartments, the scene of a fatal shooting on Friday, as the shootings remain under investigation.
